A group of Tehama County people give hugs to prepare for National Hug Your Kids Day

The new Cone and Kimball clock tower is more than a timepiece ­ it's a great meeting place, too.
In honor of National Hug Your Kids Day on July 21, Faydra and Company, a local motivational and personal coaching organization, has organized a One-Minute Hug at 12:10 p.m. on Monday, July 21, at the Cone and Kimball clock tower on the corner of Walnut and Main streets in Red Bluff.

"The focus of the Hug Your Kids Today project is simple - to encourage all working mothers and fathers to forget the crazy idea of 'work-life balance', instead, put family first and work a close second," said Michelle Nichols, founder of National Hug Your Kids Day.

This free event is being held in the heart of the community and across the nation. Local partners include New Directions to Hope, Northern Valley Catholic Social Services, and Trilogy Day Spa.

Why hug?

"Each time we hug, we increase the level of oxytocin in the blood" said Faydra Rector-Sargent. "This hormone is known as the bonding hormone because it triggers a 'caring' response in men, women, and children. As adults, that daily dose of oxytocin-laced hugging protects us from heart disease. For a child it stimulates feelings of safety and love. Come celebrate what's right in the world and share a hug."
