2011 Holiday RESULTS

Clear Channel Outdoor has donated 250+ digital billboards across the U.S. over the past four years. This is their fourth year to support Global Hug Your Kids Day!

RESULTS for 2011 Global Hug Your Kids Day on Monday, July 18, 2011

For the 2011 holiday, our focus was to bring the holiday into the homes and lives of families around the world through the 30 Day Hug Challenge, national media, social media, blogs, and MLB - Major League Baseball.

The Chicago Cubs sent me a photo of when they announced the Hug holiday.

2011 Global Hug Your Kids Day RESULTS

The holiday was listed in the official holiday calendar book, Chase's Calendar of Events, published by Mc Graw- Hill.
753 radio and TV stations in 15 states played a radio interview by publicnewsservice.org on July 18.
CNN prime-time TV interview - Vinnie Politan interviewed me LIVE remotely on HLN - Headline News, at 6:50 PM EDT on July 19. http://www.cnn.com/video/#/video/bestoftv/2011/07/19/exp.pn.hug.kids.day.hln
Social media coup - Vinnie Politan also sent out a tweet to his 270,000+ Twitter followers (gasp!) about the 30 Day Hug Challenge! It was re-tweeted 100+ times. As a result, hundreds of his fans signed up for the Challenge.
NBC-TV ran a great story about the holiday on stations in Reno, Kansas City, Portland and Sacramento.
9 digital billboards across northern Nevada were donated by Clear Channel Outdoor. They said "Hug Your Kids Today!"
Gannett's Moms Like Me columns wrote articles and collected photos of parents hugging their kids in: Sacramento/ Elk Grove, CA,
Created the 30 Day Hug Challenge. Thanks to the great media coverage, hundreds of parents took the challenge, generating thousands of hugs!
MLB - Major League Baseball teams, in both the American League and the National League, announced the holiday on a scoreboard DURING a game in: Houston (playing Washington Nationals,) Chicago (playing Philadelphia Phillies,) Baltimore (playing Boston Red Sox,) and in Pittsburgh (playing Cincinnati Reds - photos below.)
Reno Radio - I was interviewed on the Bill and Connie show of Alice 96.5 FM, Conor Flanagan on The Bandit, 92.9 FM and Jeffrey Benjamin on FOX radio 99.1 FM http://soundcloud.com/breakthroughtraining/michelle-nichols-jeffrey-benjamin
Nevada Magazine (circulation 20,000 printed copies) listed the holiday in the Events & Shows calendar.

Today is "Global Hug Your Kids Day." I know we don't need a reason to hug our children, but I'll take one. After watching the interview with Jaycee Dugard and her mother, I want to hug my children even more. Her mom says she was in a hurry that morning 18 years ago, and rushed off to work without kissing her girls. She regretted it every day.

Although hugs should be given every day, make this week’s extra cuddly!

Did we succeed with every media idea? Nah. We tried to partner with National Hug Day and beat National Hug Your Cat Day. Maybe next year!
